When thinking about giving your car a brand new jewel-like shine, there is no safer option than a random orbital polisher.

There are so many different orbital polishers on the market right now. Some are cheap, some are expensive and some are very good at what they do. I will be looking at two of them and talks about the different polishing machines and what makes them different.

Unlike traditional rotary car polishers, which are celebrated all around for their high-speed diversified work resolutions by professionals, a random orbital is designed more for the beginners. Especially individuals who have just tasted the wonders of polishing the car on their own.

Also, a random orbital polisher is safer and easier to handle by most individuals flawlessly from the get-go provided that one has read the instructions thoroughly.

So, today, I will compare two new random orbital polishers, namely the TORQX, and the TORQ10FX, that are creating quite a community buzz nowadays. With an elaborate description as to what makes them unique from one another.

Simply put, the TORQ 10FX can be thought of as an advanced version of the TORQX. Manufactured by the same company, this newer upgrade is made more in line with how mobile companies market new phones each year. That is by adding or substituting features to the previous models to make them more user-friendly.

In this aspect, you can already count that both the TORQ 10FX and TORQX will contain more similarities than differences. Nonetheless, what will ultimately tell them apart is the degree of features that’s been upgraded in significance to the diversity of consumer preference.

Design Winner: TORQX

The TORQX is ergonomically designed to enhance user comfort and provide greater polishing effects. Weighing 6.5 lbs. The tool endorses an additional grip handle in the front, up to 5-inch backing plates and 8mm throw.

The speed control knob and the power switch is conveniently located at the side and back end of the device to make it easier for the user to reach and control with one hand alone.

Performance Winner: TORQ 10FX

When it comes to performance, it is really hard to specifically discern the difference between the two models.

Although it could be said that the TORQX uses a 680-watt motor whereas a 10FX uses 700 watts. The effect that it creates on the average 1500-4200 OPM (orbits per minute) limit is, however, not very significant.

Then again, both these models use “Precision Power” flex technology to power the motor on start-up.

The P² flex technology in regards protects the machine from external and internal wear-tear damages, thereby increasing its longevity. This feat is achieved by gradually powering up the device to reach the determined speed set-up instead of directly pushing the power influx to stretch maximum.

And it should be mentioned that TORQ 10FX, with its smart User Interface (UI) control, is a commendable successor of the P² technology.

This is because with 6 different speed settings, the 10FX commands minute-level precision control over the functional procedures, compared to the TORQX’s two-dimensional speed range (i.e., slow or fast).

Application

Here as well, the discrepancy between the two is challenging to pinpoint. Being a versatile detailing device, both the TORQ tool applies “Streamlined Integration” mechanics to change the backing plates alternately.

So how does it help?  Frankly speaking with old-fashioned “dual-action” polishers, changing buffing pads to complement different detailing tasks were extensive endeavors. That demanded the user to express high device knowledge and skilled observation.

Needless to say, when these extensive modifications weren’t carefully carried out, it reflected poorly on the device and threatened to void warranty codes.

But the introduction of the streamlined integration makes it extremely easy to change the 3, 5, and 6inches of backing plates in a TORQX and 3, 4, 5, and 6 inches pads in a TORQ 10FX. As all one needs to do here is to use a wrench to remove and swap one plate with the other and secure it tightly!

And that’s about it. Once appropriate backing plates are in place. There is no hindrance to using your newly acquired device to eliminate the scratches and swirls on the paint, spread sealants, or waxes, restore headlight clearance, polish the car, etc.

So, Which One Is The Better Choice?

In retrospect, you may think that “if TORQ 10FX is the superior version, then wouldn’t buying it directly, save me time and trouble”?

To answer, honestly, not really. Yes, words like “advanced” or “upgrade” do cast charming spells! But what you have to recognize here is, upgrades mostly bring about only subtle changes contrary to drastic, a point much evident with the two TORQ polishers today.

Therefore, if you cannot fully appreciate or have any use for the new features that are being upgraded, then spending tons of money on the latest model is nothing but an expression of vanity.

Not to forget, the “latest models” always cost far more than their counterparts. A fact that will again prove itself when you check the price tag on the two said devices.

My advice? When confused between two such successive models, always, and I mean always, carefully observe and contest their features (no matter how small) against your definite requirements before dropping the ax!
